Back To Work
I think everyone should own both consoles.
Anyway, I’ve got work that needs to be done on my web site. I’m currently talking about the Playstation 3 and the XBox 360, two consoles which I’m greatly looking forward to spending my hard earned cash on. Gran Tourismo all the way.

Deception
This blogger just got Mortal Kombat DeceptionAnyway, i have yet to play it. I havent felt like it. I was supposed to print out some game cheats when i was at school…i forgot. No, i don’t have a printer. It’s not really a big deal…i’ll just copy the shit down by hand. I do wish i had a printer though. That would be wish #3 if i had 3 wishes. What the first 2 wishes would be…i’m not sure. I have an idea, though.

Xbox 360 And Digital Content
Will the XBox 360 increase sales of Windows Media Center?
We all know that the Xbox 360 is going to be a go-between for digital content. You will be able to use it as a Media Center Extender, even for high definition content. In fact, this console will most likely be the reason that I purchase a Media Center PC. The following quote, albeit by a Microsoft representative, puts it all into perspective:

Criticizing The Critic
It's not really kosher to review a product you helped make.
I think Tommy Tallarico may be a biased critic. As a video game music composer and the host of Judgement Day (a half hour weekly show on G4 TV that rates video games), his dual rolls seem to have conflicted. He composed the music and sound effects for the new Advent Rising game, and then gave it a great rating on his show (8.0 out of 10). Advent Rising is a game that offers nothing new to the first person shooter genre, but actually uses seemingly dated graphics and awkward game play. But that isn’t just my opinion. X-Play, another show on G4 TV that rates video games, gave Advent Rising a 2 out of 5.

Video Games
I have a ps2 and some games that I like a lot for it are the duo of Baldur's Gate games. They are wicked, solo or as a team. Finished both of them and I am looking forward to a new one (hopefully before the ps3 comes out!). I also have a compilation of old school arcade classics that is pretty fun when you're in the mood. And the Mark of Kri was one of my first, and probably my favorite.

Simon
If you’re itching to play there is an online version (warning: noisy flash animation) at the manufacturer’s website, which reports that “the game debuted to the world at Studio 54 in a launch party attended by a number of ’70s celebrities who played SIMON game while dancing to the beat of disco and the flashing of SIMON lights.” Drugs and video games, mmmm.

Mash The Buttons
If you don't know how to play a game, just hit all the buttons. It's just like driving a car.
This past saturday we went to a party at matt and amandas house. it was a lot of fun even tho i wasnt drinking. even when youre not drinking you can always make fun of the drunk ones. we were there for like 7 hours. they did karaoke and matt gave us performance of Godmack’s VooDoo for us (by request from rene and me). matt has this video arcade stand thingy that he built and it has like a billion old arcade games on it, including dark stalkers!! i used to love that game when i was a kid. i didnt know how to play it tho so i just mashed the buttons a bunch and hoped for the best.

Grand Theft Auto XXX
When Congress starts calling for hearings on your product, you know you have a big problem on your hands.
However, Rockstar Games’ argument has been undermined by an increasing number of reports that claimed the sex minigame is in the PlayStation 2 version of San Andreas. Since the PS2 version comes on an unmoddable DVD, it cannot have any content added to it, although cheat codes–created either by the publisher or third parties–can unlock preexisting code on the disc. While devices such as GameShark and Action Replay Max can tweak preexisting variables in system memory with cheats, they cannot inject new models, animations, and/or code into a game.

PSP Homebrew
Here's a new PSP homebrew blog to check out.
For those who do not know anything about Homebrew on the PSP here is a quick crash course. Homebrew is the given term to applications, emulators, and games that can be run on the PSP that were not developed by “professional” developers or authorized by Sony. The name Homebrew is accurate because many of the programs were written at home or without the backing of a developer.

Xbox Mania
Careful, game play can become addictive with these new consoles.
It was fun playing those games and intensified my urge for a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. They should be pretty nice and run way more games than my Windows-less Celeron 1700 or Mac Mini. I still have two Xboxes at home and played some Burnout 3 whenever I had time. I guess the first phase of enthusiasm will wear of the next few days and I can focus on other things (I even managed to fix three FreeBSD ports while that damn beast was loading stuff).

User Group Care Package
How do I sign up to get one of these care packages from Microsoft?
When I got home I tore into the package and found a huge stash of goodies. When Drew said he was sending a care package I expected some books, probably a ton of beta CDs, etc. This was so much more. There was a plethora of Xbox games, computer games, and other software! And not the crappy stuff, I am talking about full copies of Office
, Visual Studio Enterprise Architect
, Flight Simulator
, Halo 2
, and much more.

Xbox Vs. PS2 Game Consoles
Good point here: make sure the game console you buy can run the games you want to play. Or just buy two game consoles!
When deciding which of these two game consoles is best for you, you should certainly take into consideration what types of games each offers, and which games you are most interested in playing. PS2, having been around a little while longer, tends to have the larger game library, but Xbox is not terribly far behind. In addition, Xbox tends to produce games geared more towards adults than children. The graphics seen on the new Xbox games are also clearly a step ahead of PS2 graphics. There is, however, nearly a PS2 game for everyone, and there are lot of PS2 games geared towards teenagers. If you are looking for games for kids, the Nintendo Gamecube may actually be a better choice than either of these two - and it’s cheaper.

The 8-bit Addiction
Who knew...Naturally, this lead on to deeper exploration of the genre, and eventually to the discovery of a whole new (relatively underground) scene I never knew existed. People making music using retro consoles like the Commodore 64 and Gameboys (not strictly a console, I know). I know what you're thinking. I thought exactly the same. "How can you produce anything of note using a C64?". But you'd be surprised - some of the music produced is fairly advanced, and some of the techniques used are, well, fairly advanced.

Cell Supports Linux
From our Italian friends:
Da qualche giorno su internet circola la notizia che il processore Cell (ovvero quello che verrà messo nelle PlayStation 3) è supportato anche dal kernel Linux, maggiori informazioni si trovano su questo articolo. Visto che la PlayStation 3 supporterà un HD da 2.5′’ (come quelli dei notebook) è teoricamente possibile installarci anche un sistema operativo basato sul kernel Linux. Il resto lo lascio alla vostra immaginazione!

Review: EA Sports Rugby 2005
Did you break any teeth playing EA Sports‘ Rugby 2005In conclusion, I enjoyed the game enough to have played a couple of matches, some 5 minutes per match-half, others much longer. I give it 8 out of 10, it losing points mostly for the irritating player-switching-choices. Not a game for non-sport lovers, definitely a game for rugby lovers. For the casual gamer that wants to have something more serious than Mario Party 4 on the GameCube and something less bloody than Soul Caliber 2 to play, then this might be something to own, if only for the short bursts of enjoyment one can get out of it, and less so for the long-term enjoyment.

Apparently there are some naughtly scenes in Grand Theft AutoSo here’s an interesting situation. The code is sitting hidden away, and completely inaccessible to anyone playing it normally. However, a chap has programmed a mod that allows access to the unused scenes.

Ridge Racer
Sounds like the PSPRidge Racer doesn’t disappoint. I bought a Gameboy Advance just after their US release a few years back (I happened to be in the States at the time), and there was nothing amongst the launch titles for the GBA that had the same impact as Ridge Racer on the PSP. The presentation is, for the first time on a handheld gaming device, on a par with the presentation in games for the “big” consoles of this generation. The cute little loader game gives way to an excellent title sequence, immediately making clear that this little black box packs a big punch.

Happy Birthday Pac Man!
Call me old, but I really miss the video games of those days. I know the video game industry is still going strong, and the quality of the graphics are phenomenal, but where the whole reality video game concept breaks down for me is in the controls. Take ole Robotron for example. Two joysticks. One to move your guy away from the swarming robot armies, and one to direct your gunfire. Because you could shoot and move in different directions you had to ‘decouple’ your left hand movements from your right. Wickedly hard and wickedly fun. Now look at modern PS2 or Xbox controls. 6+ buttons, 2+ triggers, an 8-way direction pad, and an analog joystick. To get your quarterback to throw a long pass from the shotgun in a modern, super-realistic NFL video game you’ve got to do a “left - up - fire - fire - button1 - button6 - down - down - button4 & button3 combo - wink - wink - snort - right - up” control sequence, all in 10ms.

Sonic Coming To PS3 And 360?
It would be great if Sonic The HedgehogAccording to Gamespot, Sega may be partnering with Secret Level, developer of the Xbox version of Karaoke Revolution, to develop a next-gen Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Xbox and PS3. While it’s nice to see that there are still new games being developed featuring everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog (well he’s the only one, but still…), it’s also sort of disappointing, at least in my view, to not see the words “Nintendo Revolution” anywhere in that article. The article is just a rumor, but perhaps Sega, or at least Sonic Team has abandoned Nintendo’s home consoles. Sonic had two Gamecube-exclusive titles this generation, however, and again this article is not entirely confirmed. Also, stating support for PS3 and Xbox 360 does not necasarily take the Revolution out of the picture either. We’ll just have to wait and see. At any rate, at least we have Sonic Rush… right?

Game Songs
I think we'll see a lot more band placement in video games like DeadsyDeadsy is a band I had never heard of until I bought a playstation 2 and played the freebie game that came with it, Offroad Fury 2. A song by Deadsy titled Gramercy Park was part of the game’s soundtrack and after hearing it over and over I had to find out who they were. Fortunately, the The Edmonton Public Library has a copy of the CD Commencement, on which Gramercy Park was released.

Catchin' Up
Love those Mario KartThursday night a few of us from work went to happy hour at Chili's. Usually when we go out it is a sausage fest, but somehow I managed to get some females to accompany us for the evening. Hell must have froze over. After shooting the bull for a few hours, the trio of Pat, James, and I decided to go out. We went to Hard Times Cafe, our old stomping grounds for pool. We stayed there forever, Pat got some digits which was very impressive, and then headed back home for an all out Mario Kart war on the Nintendo 64. I ran my mouth and talked so much trash which resulted in a wedgie that ripped my boxer briefs. Thanks Pat!

The new Midnight Club game is now rolling on onto Sony’s new handheld console. The game was previously released back in April on the Xbox and PlayStation 2, which was created by lead developers, Rockstar San Diego. No Hard Drive For PS3
Good update on the hard drive configurations for the next gen consoles:
This means that what looks like an Xbox successor, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will be the only one out of the next-gen consoles that will have a detachable 20GB hard drive, which sums up to be 60GB less than what seemed to be the PS3’s hard drive. Also, Nintendo has not considered the Revolution having a hard drive because the console actually uses 512MB of memory for saving game data.

PSP Piracy
Piracy not unexpected with the PSP.
Well, it took awhile, (though I certainly thought that it would take a lot longer) but a team has finally found a way to play UMD games on memory sticks. An anonymous group has released a loader for Lumines to allow it to be played through a memory stick, so you can have an image of the puzzle game on the stick, use the loader, and voila, you’re a dirty pirate. The loader requires a UMD on the device and a 1.5 firmware (sorry, no 1.0 Japanese PSP’s will work ATM), and the game currently has no sound, but no doubt this is a sign of things to come, with Sony becoming ever more paranoid (and rightly so) and releasing more firmware updates to cripple your PSP, and the PSP piracy scene about to get a massive kickstart.
