Games! Games! Games!

For those of you that don’t know the PS3 to be launched in the fore mentioned locations is to have a hardware revision (in order to reduce costs) that removes the hardware which allows for full back compatibility of PS2 titles. Sony have instead opted for an Xbox 360 style software emulation to allow partial (no confirmed numbers yet) back compatibility.

I say almost in the title, since today is indeed my first anniversary of the joining of me and my 360, but alas, just a few short days shy of the great event, she decided to give up the ghost, kick the bucket, throw in the towel, buy the farm, whatever your favourite metaphor is for DYING. She’s dead. 3 red lights. The word “gutted” doesn’t describe how I felt the day she passed away.

On March 28th and 29th Video Games Live will be playing shows here in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’ve never gone, but this year I might have to.

There will be a bar and a patio, free alcohol, DJ INVIDKLLR and DJ V.I.N.Cent, and we’ve even rented a bunch of stand-up arcade games for your early 80’s amusement. Frogger or Ms. Pac-Man, anyone?

If you spend a lot of time on the Internet, remember this fact that is already in your subconscious: your life is limited. If your surfing habit does not change, imagine how you would feel looking back on life and seeing all the wasted time in things that mean nothing. The same holds true for video games, especially MMORPGs. Remember, all the loot you get, all the levels you attain, all the quests you complete and kobolds you slay, mean nothing when you log off. However, there is one thing that will change: you will be older than when you started.

Rumours appear to be mounting suggesting that the eagerly awaited Metroid Prime 3 could well be delayed for the umpteenth time.

The Games. What’s a game console without good games (Answer: the Sega Saturn)? Between the included and excellent Wii Sports, the addictive mini-game based Rayman Raving Rabbids, the critically acclaimed Zelda title, and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, there are some good games available right now. The Wii is also backwards compatible the GameCube, Nintendo’s previous console, meaning you have access to the existing catalog of games over the past six years. Nintendo also has the Virtual Console through which you can buy even older games, and which deserves its own section.

Also: "When Ultimate Play The Game - by that time known as Rare - began advertising for new staff, Ritman approached them and found that they had been playing his games as much as he had been playing theirs. He started work with the company on an independent basis, and began working on their GLAM development tool-kit, along with Guy Stevens... Ritman reveals that there were a number of arcade games that he also worked on with the company, though all remain unreleased. “I think my style of game play is more suited to the long haul rather than the quick fix required in an arcade game,” he muses." Damn, how do we get hold of those games?

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) has proposed a bill to strengthen the video game rating system. Sadly I don’t agree with my fellow republican here. I believe that the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) Already does a good job of rating games.

Sony announced last week that the first 500,000 Europeans to sign up and register their PS3 on the Playstation network from launch (March 23rd) will get a free copy of Casino Royale on BluRay High Definition disk.

This is my personal review of the Nintendo Wii; it will be different from most of the other reviews which can be found on many game web sites. I will not give a rating such as 9/10 or anything. Instead it will be about my experience with Nintendo Wii. When I say ‘my experience’ then I will from time to time include what my kids thinks about it all, since they have different opinions and views on things.

Warner Bros. Interactive is now working on a kickass looking new Looney Toons game for Xbox 360 and Wii (right now, more platforms may be announced soon). It looks to be an apologetic all out melee with a team of Looney Tooners against all kinds of wacky enemies.
