Games! Games! Games!

Well as promised, I am bringing you my comparison of the 3 newest consoles - Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

Today I played the Puzzle Quest - Challenge of the Warlords demo. It was recently released for Nintendo DS and PSP and it seems pretty sweet. Someone had a really good idea that must have sounded something like: "-let's make a puzzle rpg!".

The Tepito city chief said that anyone who turns in a machine gun or any other high caliber weapon will receive a computer, and those who turn in smaller guns can either get cash or a Microsoft Xbox game console.

I haven’t purchased any Zelda titles for my Wii Virtual Console yet, mostly because I have played and beaten them all in the past and if I need a Zelda fix there is a little game called Twilight Princess available for it. Obviously a lot of players are buying old Zelda titles for the Wii and it is pretty cool that the VC allows for a selection of games across generations.

There have been many rumors about a second PSP coming out. This time however, third party developers (and other highly placed sources) have confirmed that there will be a “PSP2″ and that they are trying to get their games ready for the launch (possible later this year).

After the surprise of the Wii’s Every Votes Channel (which I wrote about in an earlier post), I reflected on what the possibilities were for this Wii Channel functionality, and what I would like to see on future channels.

In tradition with console launches there is always a subsequent drought afterwards where a console company has to catch up. In the case for this article we are talking about the PS3 and the Xbox 360 launches and the differences between the two when you look at overall games for the first three months of each console’s life cycle. Before I get into the article I would like to say before moving on that for the sake of this argument Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network games are counted as games.

Eighteen months ago, the specialist media reacted with outrage at Microsoft’s stunted backwards compatibility plans for the Xbox 360 - and for months after the launch of the console, Microsoft spokespeople ranging from rank and file PR men to the firm’s games boss Peter Moore were regularly put on the spot over the firm’s slow and unsteady progress towards making the bulk of Xbox games work on the new console.

Not everyone is a whizkid, not everyone knows how to assemble their own computer & not everyone is capable of tweaking their settings in complicated .ini files. There’s a lot of people out there who want to play PC games, but are intimidated by the amount of knowledge required to be able to play, and especially to compete. Consoles don’t suffer from this much, if only because their controller mechanisms don’t allow for much complexity and developers are forced to find simple solutions. The Nintendo Wii takes this even further by making accessibility one of it’s core selling points.

Personally, I would recommend the Wii. A game such as Wii-Sports allows you to take a look at your current neuro-muscular state and it also gives you different excercises to improve it. Additionally, you have the option to excercise the right side of the brain (playing left-handed) or the left side (playing right-handed).
