Nerdy Day!
How could it not be a nerdy day without Final FantasyToday I had a wonderful day! After laying in bed for a while, enjoying snuggling under my big blanket in a freezing room, I got a call from my friend Brian whose car stranded him on the way up from Austin. After rescuing him, I went with Rebeka to a couple of book stores to find a book on CSS. Afterwards, we decided to stay in at my place. I got her started on Final Fantasy 4 advance for gameboy advance while I played Final Fantasy 3 on DS.

Color Tetris
The story of buying a used Gameboy Color TetrisSome time last year I purchased the GameBoy Color Tetris cartridge from eBay, and because it was previously owned, (by a lovely lady called Pam) her records are still on the memory. I could’ve taken the easy way out, I suppose, and deleted all her records, and then set my own. But where’s the fun in that? With the aid of a better lighted GameBoy Advance SP, I spend gaps in my time crushing these records, seeing my name go up in the Hi-Scores, and then of course, try and beat these Hi-Scores.

Poor Sick Bubba
Being sick is no excuse not to play your GameboyTurns out he has Bronchiolitis caused by RSV. Great. Our course of treatment is Breathing treatments with a nebulizer every 4 hours, plus oral Prednisone. He is already battling me tooth and nail to not have to do this, even though at the Dr's office he strapped on his Fish Mask by himself and calmly played the GameBoy until the treatment was done.

DS Lite
More on the Nintendo DS LiteFirst off, I have to say this redesigned DS looks slick. It looks like something that would come from Apple. It was rumored that that Nintendo was going to do a redesign of the DS, I just didn’t believe it… I didn’t see any reason why Nintendo would have to update the hardware. It hasn’t even been out for year! I guess they’re just doing what they’ve done for a over a decade: making stuff smaller. Nintendo has had a history of rereleasing consoles/portables in a smaller package. Think about it, Game Boy & Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Advanced & Game Boy Advanced SP & Gameboy Micro. Now this! The DS Lite! The funny thing is? People actually buy these redesigned products even if they already have what is essentially the same thing. The folks at Nintendo are geniuses!

The 8-bit Addiction
Who knew...Naturally, this lead on to deeper exploration of the genre, and eventually to the discovery of a whole new (relatively underground) scene I never knew existed. People making music using retro consoles like the Commodore 64 and Gameboys (not strictly a console, I know). I know what you're thinking. I thought exactly the same. "How can you produce anything of note using a C64?". But you'd be surprised - some of the music produced is fairly advanced, and some of the techniques used are, well, fairly advanced.

gameboyzz orchestra project
Interesting tip on a new musical project that uses gameboys.

I want my TechTV!
It's cool, but I'm not sure that playing while skydiving is a very realistic product test.
In this episode, they test the wireless capabilities of the PSP and the Nintendo Gameboy DS. They actually skydive while playing a game on the Gameboy DS.

This might void the warranty, but click through for the awesome features:
More and more little computers come on the market in the guise of video games, address books, and video players. With each device comes people that take it upon themselves to push them to the limit of how then can be used. In many cases it takes a little hardware to make it all come together. This is one such case.
The Xport plugs into a Gameboy Advanced and gives you the following:

N-Gage Never Challenged Gameboy
Nintendo has kept very tight marketing focus on the Gameboy line, so it's difficult for challengers to take market share.
For those not familiar with gaming platforms, the N-Gage was Nokia's doomed attempt to introduce a GameBoy competitor. The original device sported an MP3 player, an FM tuner, a game deck, and an integrated Nokia Series 60 cell phone. The device was marketed as a gaming device and flopped miserably. I suspect that the platform's failure was largely due to having a poor library of games and Nokia not being known as a game company.

Reviving Old Computer Games
Some day, maybe you'll even have total interoperability so you can play any game on any platform. No, just kidding.
Online ‘emulation’ is a new area now being explored. The idea is that you simply play the game in your browser through a Java applet or Flash application. These might not always strictly be emulated programs but many remakes are feature perfect with the originals. The graphics, sounds, and game play remain intact. One excellent place to look for online games is Every Video Game (http://www.everyvideogame.com). While the site does not in fact contain ‘every video game’ it does have a very large list of old games from the arcades, GameBoy,...

Console Wars
Microsoft made a big mistake with backward compatibility in my mind. Sony and Nintendo handled it correctly.
Microsoft finally sheepishly admitted—after months and months of hedging—that the XBOX 360 will be somewhat backwards compatible. This is undoubtedly to counter today’s announcements that not only will the PS3 be fully backwards compatible (which everyone expected) with PS1 and PS2 titles, the Nintendo Revolution will be as well. Nintendo’s backwards compatibility kicks the asses of all the competitors. Not only will the Revolution play the last generation of Nintendo Console games, it will playall the generations: the...

Now You Are A GameMan My Son
Wishful thinking. Funny, but still, wishful thinking.
I wonder if at the age of 16 the Gameboy had a Gamebarmitzvah where everybody brings cheap gifts like batteries or maginifying lenses.
