Review: Geist
Good run down on Geist, a new Gamecube shooter.
Graphically, Geist is average. There are some cool bullet-time effects as a ghost and some very nicely done lighting in certain areas, but the majority of the visuals are typical. While human animations seem to be fluid and natural feeling, the animals you encounter in the game and are very rigid and could have used some work. Nothing horrible to look at, but I’ve seen the Gamecube push much nicer graphics to the screen.

The Best Mario Games Ever
A list of the ten best Mario Games ever.
Was the list what you expected? Did it encompass everything that is Mario? Well, no, not exactly. They seemed to have skipped out on all of the Mario sports games that have ever been created, from Mario Golf and Mario Tennis (I’m talking original Game Boy here, as well as more recent versions on the GameCube and DS) to Super Mario Strikers and Mario Hoops 3-on-3. And what about the original Donkey Kong? Super Paper Mario? Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix? Okay, that last one definitely doesn’t deserve to be on this list.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Super Smash Brothers' fans can use all the GameCube controllers/
Before, everyone thought that Super Smash Bros. Brawl would only be playable using the GameCube controller. And so, when it was finally confirmed that ALL kinds of Wii controllers would be supported, it posed some very interesting implications on the typical Smash Bros. gameplay that we’ve grown familiar with. However, this revelation is only the beginning, apparently.

Guitar Hero And Madden
We like Guitar HeroAfter that I drove to Gamestop to see if they had any cheap games for the PS2 or Gamecube. I was going to buy a hockey game to play against Roger but I didn’t act on impulse. I was able to walk away and think about how much fun Guitar Hero and Madden are.

Baten Kaitos
Baten KaitosDue to the massive attention Baten Kaitos II is getting before release, I’ve decided to give the original a shot. Sure it might just be because it’s one of the few RPG’s for the system and one of the few good looking games left for the Gamecube, but I’m interested.

Plays Well With Others
To test ability to play with others, simply insert GamecubeHe and Xander played GameCube quite a bit. I suspect that it was due to some limited playtime at his house. They played very well (as compared to our next door neighbor who when is over, we have lots of arguments and such). They also had a bit of time outside though it was quite cold so that didn’t last very long (we’ve got a cold wave going on here) where we ran into another neighbor who joined in.

Alas, Poor Nintendo, I Knew It Well
Tough days at Nintendo (and Sony).
As if the fact that most titles for the Nintendo Gamecube aren’t lame enough (i.e., Sonic Riders, Monkey Ball) the former video game conglomerate is losing more than face with its latest North American failures, the Gamecube, and Nintendo DS. As of last Friday, Nintendo reported on a cut to its previously estimated profits from 30 billion Yen to 20 billion. A whopping loss of over $87 Million in the North American market alone!

Resident Evil 4
Good news for Resident EvilIt is worth noting that despite Mikami's comments in the past, Capcom has decided to port this title to the PS2. The game will feature some new cutscenes and extras. However, it also will not be released until the end of 2005 and likely will not look quite as impressive. Personally, I think it's worth it to forget waiting, grab your GameCube and play it right now.

Gamecube Game Development
I always wondered why Nintendo versions took so long to come to market. I'd just assumed it was a market share issue.
Quoted from article: Have you ever wondered why Nintendo Power doesn’t include demo discs for subscribers? The people at the magazine would love to do it, but NCL won’t let them. Would you believe that all third-party games must be tested at both NOA and NCL, even for a U.S.-only release? This drawn-out process may be part of the reason that the GameCube version of multiplatform games is usually last to be developed and last to be released.

Backwards Compatibility
This also means that it will be mandatory to purchase new, recompiled versions of Xbox 1 titles in order for them to run on an Xbox 360, which is indeed a disappointment. And infact, Sony and Nintendo themselves have already confirmed that their next-generation gaming consoles (PlayStation 3 and The Revolution) will be perfectly backwards compatible with their older PlayStation 2 and GameCube titles. It's unfortunate to be true for both Microsoft fans and Microsoft themself, only time will tell.

Nintendo World Store Opens
Next time you're in New York City:
Nintendo’s World Store in New York is finally open for business, and the 1UP / EGM crew was there to cover the festivities. It sounds like a Nintendo fanboy’s wet dream, with widescreen TV’s playinng GameCube games, a table catered for GBA multiplayer, all the Pokemon goodies you can shake a stick at, and even a museum of past Nintendo consoles and games. That Nintendo museum is something I’d definitely check out if I was in the area.

Nintendo Reveals Revolution Details
Well, this was unexpected, Not wanting to drown in the flood of media coverage over the Xbox 360, Nintendo has revealed some details about their own next-generation console the Revolution. Most interesting is the size of the thing, which will be no thicker than 3 dvd cases and will be slightly longer, the thing can also stand horizontally and vertically and will be backwards compatible with GameCube titles. Wireless and Online functionality will also play a big role with the console, although no details were given. And when should we expect the Revolution?

Bought WWE Day of Reckoning
Good WWE Day of ReckoningOk, so after a couple of weeks of feeling bored of Smackdown vs. Raw (PS2), I decided to check out Gamespot's review of WWE Day of Reckoning for GameCube. Matt Owens, one of the Games Zone reviewers, talked a lot about how great DoR is, and I finally couldn't resist the temptation. Also, the Gamespot reviewers gave DoR a higher score than Smackdown vs. Raw, which was SHOCKING to me at first. Really, I just got sick of the glitz and glamour of SD vs. Raw, which is shocking because I really loved "Here Comes the Pain",...
Finally, I'm still thinking about what to get Diana for her 7th birthday, which is coming up on the 18th, and I can't think of anything new that she doesn't have or want. Maybe a video game, but I have already bought her all of the Sonic games for GameCube and the only thing on her mind is the new Zelda game for GameCube, which comes out fall 2005. Well, that's all for now.

Smart girlfriend.Since most of my evenings involve a video game of some sort, I thought it best to possibly give reviews or certain things I like about the games I'm currently playing. There's a reason I own an Xbox, GameCube, and PS2 but I haven't quite figured out why yet. My girlfriend would say it's to avoid saving money to move out of the house and start a family but I disagree.

Over For Sony?
This blogger has found lots of PSPs at stores ... and thinks that's not a good sign for Sony. By the way, you can get that Logitech PlayGear Pocket at AmazonLast item: I’ve been looking high and low for the Logitech PSP case. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE, even dragging Heidi and my Mom to both malls by my parents’ place to see if they had it in stock. Sold out everywhere. Sounds good for the PSP, right? Wrong. Every store that carries PSPs still has them in stock. The Best Buy in West Hartford has a pallet of them sitting there. That’s just the stores that carry the PSP, by the way. No PSPs in Target (carries the PS2, the XBox, and the Gamecube) or Sears or a few other places...

Game Cube
Donkey KongaWe finally decided to get the Nintendo GameCube for the girls. I must admit that the only reason why we got them the game was because of this really cool and fun game that came with conga drums called Donkey Konga. The game has little icons drifting from right to left of the screen, and you have to hit the drum according to the color. There are 2 drums, and yellow and red represent left and right drums, while a white icon indicates that you have to clap when you see it. It’s pretty cool and gets pretty crazy the more...

Switchable GameCube!
If you need a Japanese and U.S. version of the GameCube, this might save you a little money:
Click through for detailed instructions. With the GameCube though, all that's needed is for one jumper to be opened, and another closed, to convert the US unit into a Japanese one. If the opening/closing can be switched on/off, then we can toggle between the two regions at will! No modchip needed. Awesome!
So, after looking thru the simple online guide, and acquiring myself a 2nd-hand GameCube, as well as some tools from Radio Shack (old reliable), I took apart the console, did some cutting and soldering, and ended up with this:

Rumor: Nintendo Revolution to No-Show at E3 2k5?
This would be a real disappointment.
Yup, the title should speak for itself, but sources say that Nintendo will NOT showcase its next-generation console at E3 2005 in May. So what’s up with that? Well, we all know that Nintendo is very secretive about any information regarding any of their new consoles and they take FOREVER to be unvailed for the world to see. I really can’t see Nintendo releasing “Revolution” (working title) this year because they still have a few killer app games...

Getting Ready for E3
Lots of people getting interested Gamecube:
Time to geek it up, yet again for another game round up. E3 is just around, which should be very interesting this year with the unveiling of the next generation consoles, and the associated next generation games. A few of the upcoming, announced games which look interesting are Call of Duty 2, The Godfather, Battlefield 2, and Myst V. One other game which has me considering buying a Gamecube (apart from the new Zelda) is the next game in the Harvest Moon series, an amazing series I must say.

Resident Evil 4
This blogger sez: skip PSP and Xbox!
It is with this cultural authority behind me that I say to you: you need to get hold of a GameCube and play Resident Evil 4. I'm totally serious. A GameCube now costs less than a new PS2 or XBox game, so for under AUD$300 you could get yourself a console, a memory card, RE4 and a Pikmin game.
Instead of reading this you could be trading in some old games and playing Resident Evil 4 tonight (prior to my gig of course). Look at those gorgeous screenshots! You won't regret it.

It's great to play Pokemon on a gamecube. But what difference would it make to have Oprah talk about it. I don't get this post?
What if Opra invited Harry Potter and Pokemon on to her show to explain how to use a Macintosh, an iPod, Voice Over IP, Bluetooth, Skype, and Vonage? SURELY it would be a hit episode?

Jungle Beat
Great Jungle Beat review here:
Today, I got a game for my Gamecube called Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. Its basically a side-scrolling platformer kind of like Mario or Donkey Kong Country. However, this one is controller using this drum controller. Its just two bongo drum kind of things that plug into the system like a controller. If you hit the right drum, Donkey Kong moves to the right, and if you hit the left drum, he moves to the left. The faster you hit it, the faster he runs. If you hit both drums at the same time, he jumps, and if you clap (there’s a clap sensor...

Nintendo Strikes Back
WiFi has worked great in the PSP product line.
Nintendo also aims to bring wi-fi support to their DS console before the end of the current year. In addition, the company has made clear that their upcoming Revolution would be compatible with existing games developed for the Nintendo’s GameCube. Critics call this move quite unusual considering Nintendo normally rely on proprietary media formats for their newer releases.
